On March 2009, Lisa, age 45 from Round Lake Illinois was researching on the internet for a TMJ/Neuromuscular dentist and found us!
Here is a summary of what happened next:
- She had 4 molars (2 lower right, 2 lower left) extracted in 2008 after having a root canal treatment on all teeth without relief. Teeth were deemed non-restorable and remaining teeth had extensive wear.
- Lisa then developed TMJ pain with headaches, neck, and shoulder pain to the collapsed occlusion, or bite.
- On April 2009, Dr. Rule recommended a removable Orthotic to establish a harmonious relationship among the entire system that controls the positioning and function of the jaw-teeth, muscles, and joints, resulting in a jaw position that is called Neuromuscular Occlusion. (Quick Fact: An Orthotic is fabricated to be worn to reposition the bite temporarily to alleviate pain symptoms associate with TMD, or Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction.

- On May 2010, Dr. Rule referred Lisa to an Oral Surgeon we trust for surgical placement of dental implants on the lower left tooth #18 and #19 sites and lower right tooth #30 and #31 sites.
- On July 2010, Dr. Rule then referred to an Orthodontist for evaluation and orthodontic treatment which lasted for 2 years. Braces were removed on April 2012 and Lisa was released to move forward with restorative dentistry.
- On May 2012, the full mouth reconstruction was started with the upper arch. Tooth preparations were done of all the teeth, followed by impressions for crowns and temporaries placed. A lower arch bonded orthotic was placed to stabilize and maintain the neuromuscular occlusion. While in the provisionals, Dr. Rule worked out any interference in the bite. Once the permanent crowns were cemented the bite was refined and the patient was re-evaluated by the Orthodontist.
- On May 2013, the lower arch was prepped, impressions were taken and temporized.
- Following the cementation of the permanent crowns and placement of the implant crowns the bite was refined.
- Lisa was then referred back to the Orthodontist for new final retainers
